IBI Global encourages our Members to sign up for a Yahoo™ Messenger™ account and submit your Yahoo™ user ID for addition to our website for other Members to view and add YOU to
their buddy lists (see Member Services section for Yahoo™ listing pages and submission form. This allows IBI Global Members
worldwide to remain in instant communication with each other! We
generally recommend new users set up a Yahoo™
account in the form FirstnameLastname4ibi or something similar for easy
identification.
Yahoo™ Messenger™ can be
downloaded at
http://messenger.yahoo.com.
If it doesn't automatically come up and start installing, it's possible you
downloaded the wrong type (they have versions for every conceivable operating
system and computer)... be sure you download the that's right for your
computer and operating system (Windows version for PCs with Windows, Mac
version for Macs, Unix version for Unix, etc.).
If you are still having
trouble using Yahoo™, a few things to check are:
1) Make sure you are
connected to the Internet (through your usual dial-up or broadband connection)
before starting Yahoo™
2) Be sure you use the
username and password you created for your Yahoo™ Messenger™... a common
problem is folks don't tell Yahoo™ to "remember" their login info and they
forget what it is
3) If the buddy list window
pops up, and you're connected to the Internet, but it continually says "connecting" or "unable to find proxy" then you may have to customize your
connection settings (found in the main window menu under
File|Preferences|Connections)... you can try different connection settings to
see if that brings up the window
4) Check to see if any
error messages pop up when loading Yahoo™... if it takes an unusually long
time to load... loads but has gobblty-gook instead of words inside... or seems
to load for a second then disappears off your screen never to return; these
indicate the install may have been bad, and you should reinstall the Yahoo™
software again. If it continues, there may be a software conflict with
another program on your system. You can try shutting off any other running
programs and continually trying to run Yahoo™, and if shutting down one of the
others allows Yahoo™ to load you know it's a conflict (you can either shut off
the other program permanently or if it's unimportant, uninstall it)
If these steps don't resolve
the problem, refer to the Yahoo™ Messenger™ Help Pages at
